What can I say? Man plans, and God laughs.

The funny thing is, this delay stirs in me mixed emotions. I am eager, of course, to welcome into the world this babe of a book that I and the University of North Texas Press team have been laboring over. Very eager, indeed.

But there's part of me that embraces this being on the verge, the time when anything is possible and potential is limitless. Everything still awaits. I mean, once the book is out, its days are numbered; perhaps by the hours. Soon, too soon, the stage manager is gesturing to move along, the next act is ready.

Until then, though, I am free to imagine what might be; the rhapsodic reception, the curtain calls, the acceptance speeches. The movie deal. Why not? So long as the roulette wheel is still spinning, the ball can settle anywehere.

Players, place your bets.
